Work out a budget and consider what items are essential and what “wish” ideas are. Know the difference between a quote and an estimate. In most cases when renovating, builders will give an estimate as we do not know what structural repairs might be required until we start the job.
If you make any changes to the work being done there will be changes to the final cost, so make sure that you get changes written down and either a quote or estimate from the builder.

Decide if you need to consult a designer or architect to assist you with the design process, whether or not you do will depend on the scope of work to be done.
